Awesome tour, but hard to get scheduled for one. We essentially had to email and request a series of dates - we ended up getting scheduled for a tour nowhere near those dates, but we were grateful that they gave us a tour at all. We absolutely loved learning about this facility, about its background, about why it exists, and we enjoyed our short walk into the freezer! The presenter was great, knowledgeable, and super friendly. I'd absolutely recommend this tour to others.

Science!
The curators are knowledgeable and enthusiastic. They were able to display several examples that demonstrate what data can be extracted from the ice cores. Learning about the facility is as interesting as the underlying science. The cold rooms can be jarring for anyone that has never experienced extreme cold temperatures. Seeing the tools and techniques used for handling and cutt6the cores was very informative.

I used to work at the USGS and gave lots of tours along with the ice core science staff for many years. It’s a fabulous place and their people are doing important science work.

I stopped by here to grab a couple bags of ice for a frat party I was going to but it turns out they don't sell Ice. After being slightly disappointed I found out this was a science based ice facility. I demanded that they show me where they store Walt Disney and Bredo Morstoel and also that they should get an ice maker to accommodate people like me. They were incredibly polite and I ended up doing the tour. I ended up needing a bag of ice for my head after all the learning. Thanks Ice place!

Seriously one of the coolest (pun intended) places I've ever been. Got to visit as part of a college field trip and was amazed (and slightly frozen) while learning about and checking out the ice cores collected from Antarctica used for climate research. If you are possibly thinking about scheduling a tour, definitely go for it! It was fast, informative and a ton of fun! Dress warm however because it is super cold in the storage room!

As a scientist who has a general love for science, this was one of the most amazing spaces I've been. I was able to schedule a tour and then have my wife come and look at a core from hawaii that kept us entertained for hours.
Highly recommended.

Scientists store around 10 miles worth of ice cores from Antarctica and Greenland here, keeping it from melting for no other reason than to study it of course! The ice cores are studied to provide clues and information about the Earth's changing climates. I can't help but wonder how many backup generators they have at any given time.

Fantastic field trip. Our guide was excellent and gave us great info and hands on things to touch and look at. We really learned a lot.
